You have had countless cosmic downloads, you have intuitively picked up on people and certain situations, you have felt the presence of spirit around, but you are still doubting yourself. You are still labeling things coincedences, or just labeling yourself a “really great guesser.” Why? Why are you still stuck in the phase of your spiritual awakening where you become at war with yourself and your connection to your soul, to the universe, to all that is?
I’ll tell you the answer. It is because you are still giving too much power away to your ego. Your ego is a collection of thoughts abd beliefs we carry around.
The ego is a collection of ideas we carry around.
I am what I have
I am what I do
I am my reputation
I am separate from everybody else
I am separate from god
“Ego” is the aspects of your yourself that you consider to be “you.” A perfect example of this is a brief self-inquiry assessment.
Your ego is here to keep you safe and controlled. And when instances of growth or personal or spiritual development come into our life, our ego can go into overdrive. It can get harder to combat and at times leave us feeling defeated and inevetibly we give up.
I am writing this blog post to give you some tips that will help you combat your ego and help you get to the other side of doubt.
Whether you have experience the dark knight of the soul, or you have always have had a strong connection to your intuition – these 3 tips will help you coach your way through the doubt and fear that arises when you are strengthening your psychic skill and connection to spirit.
Start by giving your ego a name. It can be any name you want but please note you might end up saying the name out loud so be cautious of the words you use. Think of a name that irks you. Maybe a mean girl from high school, a frenemy, an ex-boyfriends’ new girlfriend, or just a name you never liked. My ego’s name is Felicia.
Now that you are acquainted with your ego on a name to name basis – it is easier to put her in check when she wants to voice her opinion.
When I started my writing journey, Felicia had a lot to say.
“You are wasting your time.”
“Nobody is going to take your seriously.”
“When will you have the time to write?!”
“You don’t have any credentials.”
She was relentless. She really thought she knew it all and her negativity was unbearable. There were times where I couldn’t stand being around her. Instead of letting her win, instead of giving her my power – I started to talk back.
Felicia – “you are never going to get”
Erica – “BYE FELICIA.”
Felicia – “that’s not a good hook.”
Erica – “BE QUIET FELICIA.”
Felicia – “this is wasted ener-“
Erica – “SHUT UP FELICIA.”
The more I stood up to her the better I felt.
The better I felt, the more confident I became.
The more confident I became, the clearer my vision was.
The more clear my vision became, the easier it was to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
In the beginning of this new habit, I would speak the words out loud. Regardless of where I was, who I was with, and what I was doing. I did not allow my circumstances at the time to control my desire to write this book. My desire to help people was far greater than my ego’s desire to control. And that, is the difference between thinking and doing.
When we devalue our ego, the power it holds diminishes. It is no longer the big scary monster living in the closet, it is just an annoying, relentless, thing that pops its head out from time to time to voice their opinion.
Simple, but super powerful. Creating visual proof of hits and misses helps to proof to yourself that you are psychic! Think about it, don’t you get a better sense of something when you have visual memory of it? Keeping a score board will help you track your improvement AND put you in a much more confident place which is the most important thing when opening up to your spiritual nature.
The spiritual path can be a lonely one so finding people on the same wave length as you is crucial. These people will be your life line. When I first started working on my psychic abilities I had nobody besides my husband who know what I was going through. It wasn’t until I felt guided to open up to a friend of mine and tell her what has been happening that I finally saw the importance of having a tribe of spiritual sisters. This was one of the reasons I created The Modern Mystic Society.
There are a ton of facebook groups online that can help you connect with like minded souls, as well as places like meetup.com or take a class at your local new age store!
You are also always welcome to join The Modern Mystic Society. This monthly membership includes 1 training per month in spiritual or personal development, 2 virtual spirit circles monthly, and a private facebook community for members.
